However, it's not just about the time spent on the phone. The role it plays in a person's life and how it is used is crucial. As a person's tolerance for negative emotions decreases, their tendency to seek short-term rewards that make them feel better can increase. This is where the phone becomes a tool for emotional regulation, a means to cope with the pressures of modern life. But what many people don't realize is that phone use can become a means of escape and short-term relief. While engaging with their phone, a person may temporarily reduce the impact of negative emotions in their life and experience a brief sense of pleasure. This is especially true in an environment where information is produced and shared by everyone, making it difficult to distinguish what is real from what is false or manipulative. The digital cycle of uncertainty is a real thing. Low tolerance for uncertainty and a tendency toward anxiety can lead people to try to control what is happening around them.
